Always be… Cape Verde!

A team with a Cypriot scent. Vozinha, Semedo, Garry Rodrigues. And so many others who passed through our island.

With a population of just over half a million, Cape Verde experienced the ultimate football miracle at the 2026 World Cup. They qualified for a World Cup final stage for the first time. They went there without any pressure.

However, they did have ambitions. And that was evident right from the get-go. A 0-0 draw with European champions Spain, a draw with Uruguay, and at the end of the group stage, a victory over Saudi Arabia. Coach Bubista was driving this "crazy truck" at full speed, and in the World Cup Round of 32, they faced the world champions, Argentina.

They didn't back down. They looked them in the eye and were eliminated in extra time. But you know what? It’s the way they were eliminated that matters. They weren't afraid; they didn't park the bus. They pushed forward, scored, applied pressure, and managed to live through great moments.

Cape Verde left the tournament with their heads held high. They taught footballing ethics and bravery. They saw careers take off, like that of 40-year-old Vozinha, who among other things, gained 27 million followers.

In a football world full of intensity and sometimes toxicity, always be Cape Verde.
